Oleg Maskaev managed to defend his WBC heavyweight crown with a unanimous decision over Ugandan Peter Okhello last Sunday in Moscow.

Travis Simms will step back into the ring after a two-year break to take on Jose Antonio Rivera for the WBA super welterweight title on the 6th of January.

The all-US fight is on the under-card of the heavyweight clash of Nigerian Samuel Peter and America’s boxing legend: James Toney. Simms grabbed the WBA title from Mexico’s Alejandro Garcia back in 2003 and defended it once before it was stripped in 2005 for failing to challenge Garcia a second time around (read more…)

Ronald “Winky” Wright has become even closer to a potential re-match with middleweight ruler Jermain Taylor after he beat Ghanaian old hand Ike Quartey. Wright once conquered the light middleweight division between 2001 and 2005 but after a great triumph over Felix Trinidad in his first fight at middleweight he drew with Taylor when they clashed back in June.

Wright out-pointed Quartey in his hometown of Tampa, Florida, after unbelievably throwing more than 1,000 punches and scoring a knockdown in the second round. The one time welterweight world champ Quartey harassed Wright throughout and made a bid for the win in a topsy-turvey final round (read more…)

Scott Harrison’s promoter, Frank Warren, has said that Harrison’s fight with Nicky Cook will only happen if the WBO featherweight champion is released from jail on Monday.

Harrison, who is 29 years old, has been in a Spanish jail since the 6th October over accusations of assault. But if Harrison does not fight on the 9th of December he may lose his WBO title. Warren was attending Alex Arthur’s European super-featherweight title fight against Sergio Palomo at the Kelvin Hall, where the Edinburgh fighter defended his crown with a fifth-round stoppage (read more…)

WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler won last night by way of knockout over WBC champ Markus Beyer to unify both titles.

Brazilian, four-time world champion Acelino Freitas has retired from professional boxing at the ripe old age of 30.

Freitas’ last fight, which was back in April, was a split-decision victory over the American Zahir Raheem for the chance to win the WBO lightweight belt. Acelino is by far Brazil’s most triumphant boxer. And although he is no longer boxing himself he said he wants to continue his boxing career as a promoter, and will go on with helping social projects in his homeland; Brazil. Four time world champion boxer Evander Holyfield has announced that the next fight in his extraordinary comeback will be against Puerto Rico’s Fres Oquendo in San Antonio on the10th November; later on this year. Holyfield is hoping that if he wins it will help him on his way towards an exceptional fifth world title.

“I want to reach my goal. And that goal is to become a world champion one more times.” said the 43-year-old former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. He carried on by saying “When I do, I’ll sit down. Until then, I’m going to be in the battlefield.” Holyfield began his comeback last month with a second-round knockout of journeyman Jeremy Bates in Dallas.
