Slam Man Reflex Trainer

By Boxing Daily, Posted August 27th, 2006
Topic: Boxing Equipment, Punch Bags and Pads

This Slam Man reflex trainer has been designed with the help of a professional boxer. It has three training levels: novice, immediate and difficult. By using this equipment you are copying a boxer’s workout – concentrating mainly on your speed and power punching.

Slam Man Reflex Trainer

It has three height adjustments so you are able to pick the size of your target: 64”, 68” or 72”. It has been made from bulky high-density, blow-moulding polyethylene plastic so it is certain to always return to its original shape without splitting or wrinkling. The Slam Man has uniquely LED target lights which have been programmed to enhance quick reflexes and co-ordination.

The eight large target lights flash in random patterns to help develop your hand-eye co-ordination. The adaptable strike sensor enables you to adjust how hard you need to hit each light before putting it out. There are fifteen programme options and a feedback system that informs you of how fast and successful you were.

The Slam Man comes complete with 12 oz. boxing gloves, video and boxer’s ideal eating plan. The base needs to be filled with 109 kg of dry sand (not water) so that it is stable enough for a regular person to hit it as hard as he can in the stomach. This product has a RRP of £299.99 but can be found cheaper over the internet. Although it is quite expensive this product is well worth the money and is almost certain to improve any boxer’s speed and power of their punches. It is made to a very high standard and is sure to last. I have used a Slam Man in training I have never worked with such a great piece of equipment. Dare I say it; it is almost as good as the real thing!

  1. why not water to fill the base?

  2. You should have LEDs on both temples not the eyes. Poor target spots. Also on either side of the mouth, on the jaw. Not the mouth. That’s a poor spot to punch someone as you’re risking you’re own physical damage because of their teeth. Put a LED on the nose instead. Also may want to re-arrange the body LEDs to allign with better target spots such as Kidney, Liver, Etc…My comments are with regards to proper self defense…

  4. I have trained with such a dummy, and I really have to say it is really bad! Sure reflex training is important, but this idea still has a long way to go for it to be a powerful tool for a pro fighter. The targets need to rearrange, the materials are not the best for your already pounded hands (at least, I personaly suffer a lot from harder punch surfaces from training twice daily). And the programs also need to get som reprogramming, for more professional training (like logical combat sequences: jab, jab, hook).

  5. I agree with the above comments; but also have other issues. This product is really no good for anyone who can punch harder than a 6 yr old child. The thing moves all over the place, so you constantly have to reposition it (unless you have the space to follow it). The foam ‘targets’ seem to split easily (i am only 10 stone, so god knows how it fares with a heavy weight!!
The brackets that hold in position; mine have broken, so i am now training to fight dwarfs!! Because of this, centre of gravity has reduced, and it does bloody hurt your hands when hitting it.

  7. everything on the above comments are great but you got to remember its just a reflex trainer its not a heavy bag and because of this its no going suppose to be able to take the hits that a heavy bag can take its more like a speed bag if anything and dan its not for self defense its for BOXING so it doesnt need pressure points you dont want to kill the person your boxing all and all it is good to have but i do agree it needs more logical programming
