Sugar tips Oscar and Ricky to beat Floyd

sugar ray backs hatton

The boxing legend, Sugar Ray Leonard thinks that Ricky Hatton and Oscar De La Hoya both have what it takes to defeat Floyd Mayweather. Watch the interview here.

This comes after Mayweather unleashed a savage verbal attack at “fat and garbage” Ricky Hatton.

Sugar Ray Leonard said, “The Ricky Hatton that beat Kostya Tszyu in 2005 can beat Floyd Mayweather. He was so focused and in such good physical shape that he would have given anybody at that level a tough time.”

I think that the Ricky Hatton that fought Tszyu could have beaten up anything on this planet! He was awesome that night!

Like Floyd Mayweather, Sugar Ray Leonard is a world champion in four different boxing weight divisions but he is a big fan of Manchester’s Ricky Hatton.

Watch the interview.

Sugar Ray also dismissed Mayweather’s verbal onslaught at Hatton: “I dealt with trash-talk in my career and did the same myself. I wasn’t as abrasive as Floyd Mayweather, but it’s fun and it adds to the sport.”

Leonard’s reasoning behind him backing a De La Hoya victory is that he is stronger and bigger, but he did say that no boxer can match Mayweather for speed.

The Mayweather De La Hoya fight is on course to be the biggest grossing non-heavyweight fight in the history of boxing.

What do you make of Sugar Ray Leonard’s comments?

  2. All respect to Sugar Ray,the legend, but he got it wrong about Dela Hoya(which i did).He got it wrong about him he`s CERTAINLY got it wrong about Hatton.Hatton`s just a little light welterweight who Mayweather would distroy as he did to Gatti.

  3. If Mayweather fights Hatton the way he did against De La Hoya then Hatton will win just like DLH, and maybe this time Mayweather won’t get to payoff the judges, which can only be the reason why they gave it to Mayweather instead of DLH.
