Thai Olympic Boxer Gets One Year Ban For Drugs

Suriya Prasathinpimai, an Olympic boxing bronze medallist, has been banned from the ring for a year after he tested positive for banned substances.

The middleweight boxer, Suriya Prasathinpimai, was one of Thailand’s top amateur boxers but unfortunately he failed a drugs test at the Southeast Asian Games in December, Amateur Boxing Association of Thailand.

Thailand is a hot spot for young boxers, especially at the amateur levels, producing talent such as flyweight veteran Somjit Jongjohor, Athens light-welterweight gold medallist Manus Boonjumnong, and Olympic bantamweight silver medallist Worapoj Petchkoom.

Do you think Suriya Prasathinpimai deserved a year long ban?

Personally I would say that anyone who is taking performance enhancing drugs should get a lot more than a year long ban, perhaps 5 years. We simply cannot allow drug takers and cheats to ruin a great sport like boxing.

What do you think?
