Floyd Mayweather outclassed Carlos Baldomir on Saturaday night in Vegas to win the WBC welterweight championship before publicizing his plans to retire after his next bout. An emotional Mayweather said at a press conference: “One more fight, then that’s it for me; every time I fight, its blood, sweat, and tears because I love the sport.”
The man who many refer to as the best pound-for-pound fighter around today could meet the renowned Oscar de la Hoya some time next year. On the subject Mayweather said: “I believe De la Hoya will want to fight me after tonight,” said Mayweather, who cited wear and tear on his body and the desire to leave on top as the main reasons for his decision. . . If he wants to make the fight, he knows where to find me.”Mayweather became a four-weight champion when he beat IBF champion Zab Judah for the title back in April, but gave up the belt to meet Baldomir. He still remains unbeaten after 37 professional bouts; of which 17 were world title contests. Check out this short video if the great man himself:
It’s a shame such a great fighter has to leave the sport, but I am just glad that he is clever enough to leave when on a high unlike so many previous champions. I can’t wait for his clash with de la Hoya, but it’s just a shame that he never fought Manchester’s Ricky Hatton.
