In terms of pound for pound boxing ability, who is the top boxer around today?

My personal favourite would have to be Floyd Mayweather, check out this video of him:

Even though as a Brit I tend to favour the British boxing talent, I don’t think that there is a boxer in the UK who can match Maywheather’s class, talent and style.
Joe Calzaghe and Ricky Hatton obviously come right at the top of my list but sometimes their turn a bit messy and scrappy whereas Maywheather keeps up a great boxing style.
I am confident that one day Amir Khan will also come into the top spot, but he still has a lot to prove in the pro boxing world.
But who do you think is the best boxing champion around today?

Yeah I have to say Maywheather is the most entertaining boxer around atm, he is simply class….also awesome video dude!

maywheather certainly maintains his quality boxing throughout his fights, whereas hatton drifts into his mean fight mode - which is very effective, but shows less boxing skill and ability.
Maywheather has more boxing class so i think he is the best.

maywheather is the best…no contest

Calzaghe versus Lacy was top draw, but then he let himself down in the next fight against that Aussie when he got drawn into a messy fight.
Also, his punches down quite rock the head like Mayweather’s do.

Yes I agree with Will.
Calzaghe has a perfect record, but he needs to put it some better performances if he is to be considered the No.1 P4P fighter.
Hatton may also get this spot, if he beats Castillio, Mayweather beats De La Hoya and then Hatton beats Mayweather.
Until such times…Mayweather is still number one.

I would have to say Calzaghe as well. Not take anything away Maywheather but, when was the last time he knocked someone out? I think Calzaghe should have been Fighter of the year for 2006.

This thing is Calzaghe has not proven himself yet. He needs to beat Mikkel Kessler to become the undisputed super middleweight champion. Then he can be considered as a contender for the best boxing champion.

LOL CALZAGHE LOL!! He should not even be in this topic… he beat ONE guy (Lacy) ewwwww I’m sooo impressed. Get out of here. That is one fight. I would say Roy Jones Jr is the best champion around today before I said Calzaghe is. Of course Jones Jr hasn’t done anything in years… well Calzaghe hasn’t done ANYTHING his whole Career. SO he is BY FAR waaaaaaaaay out of this topic. Kessler will destroy him here in August or when ever there fight is and then everyone can stop talking about him because he will be finished and embarrassed and fall off the face of the earth just as Prince Naseem Hameddid did when he fought Marco Antonio Barrera (I did like the Prince, he had a great style). Kessler will soon enough be a great champion and have all the belts. But I would say it’s a toss up of Mayweather and Hatton which would be a great fight. UNLIKE the De La Hoya Mayweather fight… such BS.
Anyway, There are a few names up for grabs like Hopkins and Winky.. Taylor has his fights, but needs a few more under his belt before he is anything great. OR at least a few KO’s from P4P top fighters and not go all 12 rounds. Over all boxing is hurting and needs some great fights with some greater fighters. I guess I expect too much from these multi millionaires to actually get in there and fight for there life. Which if you watch some old boxing matches, that’s what it was like. We need those types of fights back. Those types of fighters back. We need the PRETTY BOY FLOYDS and the CALZAGHE’S to hang it up or BACK IT UP. I like Mayweather but this last fight was a DISGRACE to boxing and a STAB IN THE BACK TO THE FANS. He did nothing he said he would do. Nothing at all. Just talk. Calzaghe talks and talks and calls allllll these names out but lets his promoter do the real talking and gives offers soooo far off the wall (Calzaghe would get most of the money, they have to come to Wales in his back yard to fight… etc.) that no fighter would take, just so they can dodge a real opponent to protect his unblemished record. I WANT BOXING BACK. I want real fights with REAL FIGHTERS that are willing to actually FIGHT. Not RUN BACKWARDS and pop shot all night and win a belt (Mayweather) or talk about there the greatest in the WORLD ever known to man, yet they dodge real fighters to fight reality show boxers (Calzaghe).
I want to stop getting more excited watching MMA, and get more excited about boxing. Boxing is falling off fast and needs its BALLS back. There are too many fake fighters that do just what they need to do to make it and not fight from the heart. But hey when it’s all done and said for its all for the money right? Well I’m blabbing on but just kind of making a point I guess, by saying with all the fighters and promoters the way they are today, it makes it hard to choose who’s the best champion. because of how boxing has evolved. It’s like you have said before. soon enough this will be called UFC (MMA) forum. Because boxing will be finished. We the fans need more from boxing… ALOT more…

And one other thing. Everyone needs to take a moment for a fallen boxer…. He was a great fighter and it’s sad we will never get a chance to see him in the ring again. He left us at a very young age of 29.
RIP Diego ‘Chico’ Corrales

I think the best fighter in the world today is floyd mayweather. He has`nt dodged any big fights he, he has beaten the best held the title and still holding it in four weight classes, 25 knockouts. I do`nt really like floyd but you can`t take it away from him he is`nt the best in history im not saying that im just saying he is a great fighter and the best in the world atm.
