Junior Witter has lost his title to a mandatory challenger, Timothy Bradley.
Witter had talked of fighting Ricky Hatton, but it doesn’t look like this will happen now!
Well, maybe there is still a chance at glory, but Witter will have to start over after being sent to the canvas by Bradley and eventually losing the fight in a majority decision:
115-113 and 114-113 to Bradley and 115-112 for Witter.
Do no be fooled by the split decision, it was not a close fight. Witter looked shaky after being knocked down in the sixth by a overhand right. The punch hit Witter on the edge of the jaw, a pivotal point for knockouts and he went straight down.
Speaking about the possible fight with Ricky Hatton, Witter said: “No, I don’t think he’ll fight me now,”
But there is still a lot more in the tank and I’ll be back as world champion. This was just a bad day at the office.”
As a Brit I would like to see Witter get back on top of his game as its good to see British boxers making it on the world stage. However, Witter is late on in his career and I am not sure whether he has enough time to make a comeback after this defeat.
The best way for Witter to get back quickly would be to get a rematch with Bradley, fast, and win convincingly to show the boxing world that he is capable of making it on the world stage.
Do you think Witter can get to the top of boxing after this defeat?
And what about Bradley? Are we seeing a promising prospect coming through?
