The WBC light-welterweight world title holder; Junior Witter, confesses that he still has an eye on Ricky Hatton and will be watching him when defends his crown against Arturo Morua on the 20th of January.
But on the very same night Hatton will be fighting Juan Urango in Las Vegas and Witter declares that judgments will be inevitable. He told press: “It’s a chance to show Hatton’s fans what he’d be up against, and for other people to draw comparisons. I have got to concentrate on my next opponent, but I’d be lying if I said Hatton was not the one I wanted.”
Witter is definitely confident after winning his world title against DeMarcus Corley back in September and he is desperate for a showdown with Hatton; who has a record of 41wins from 41 fights of which 30 came by way of knock-outs.
The Manchester boxer was once the world light-welterweight champion who gave up his titles to move up to welterweight, where he became world champion again, before he returned to light-welterweight. From his previous exhibits Morua does not look like much of a threat to Hatton with a record of only 24 wins from 32 bouts. Hatton is definitely a great fighter and is destined for even bigger and better things.
He is, in my eyes, England’s best boxer at the moment and deserves more credit from the English people for what he has accomplished. Not this year, but I think if he keeps on winning titles he will certainly become the BBC sports personality of the year.
Please leave your thoughts on Ricky Hatton and his up and coming fight at the bottom of the page.

this would be an exremely interesting fight and both fighters would try and dominate the fight and try and knock each other out and win the game.

It would definately be a very exciting contest but I feel that Hatton would have the power advantage and would be able to win.

witter should have took this fight years ago it would have been alot closer hatton has raised his game over the last few years whereas witter seems to be going in the wrong direction beating chop chop was no big feat really hes a shot fighter we all now that.

I think that this will be a good bout because Witter is really wants this fight and if he didn’t think he had a chance of winning he wouldn’t be so desperate for it to happen. I know Witter is by no means great but he is not a bad boxer at all and I think too many people underestimate him or disregard him becuase of some of his previous performances or opponents.

Obviously I’m a bit biast because I’m English and I genuinely admire Ricky Hatton but I do think he has the all round better boxing skills and the greater heart.
Another fight I’d love to see would be with Hatton and Mayweather although I think Mayweather would probably have the edge over Hatton.
