34 year old Clinton Woods is to defend his IBF title against his Jamaican rival, Glen Johnson, in Bolton on Saturday night. Woods wants to soon establish himself as the number one light heavyweight champion in the world by beating Johnson.
Clinton’s manager said this: “Johnson cannot outbox Clinton on the jab or at long range. Clinton will shell him from distance all night.” They two met back in 2002 but the fight ended in a draw.
Johnson then returned to Sheffield in 2004 to take a unanimous decision and the IBF crown. After watching the fight again Clinton could not believe how close he came to winning it, but he says it has only given him more motivation to go on and win. Johnson has defended the IBF belt only once; against Roy Jones, before giving it up to fight the American Antonio Tarver. Woods won the vacant IBF belt with a remarkable fifth-round knockout over Rico Hoye in 2005 and has defended it twice. The English, Clinton Woods is a very impressive boxer who only won a world championship belt late into his career but I believe he has the ability to win on Saturday night.
Come on Clinton! You can do it!
